A little bit about my studio
I thought it would be nice to share a little bit about where I spend my time researching, thinking and making. I’m really lucky to have found a little studio on a farm about fifteen minutes outside of Nottingham. If gives me space away from the urban world and allows me to create work in a calm rural environment.
I found the studio by chance about two years ago when I wasn’t really looking for a new studio as I had a space with a close friend at Fishergate Point Studios in Nottingham. I stumbled on the advert and at first tried to convince myself that I didn’t need to be distracted and was ok where I was. My resolve crumbled a bit and after a week and I came to view it thinking “well at least I can discount it” - little did I know!
At the time I was working part time in Derby and spent the rest of the time at my studio, both very urban grey environments full of buildings and people, so the studio was somewhere where there were more horses than people. It’s also really close to some lovely green spaces and remnants of its previous role as an officers building during the Second World War.
During the pandemic, I’ve been working here in my part time job at Derby Museums as well as developing my art practice and undertaking an MFA Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University - it’s been a bolthole of normality while we’ve been in lockdowns and social distancing.
I’ve done a quick walk through to show you a bit of my studio, what I have around me and to introduce my trusty studio assistant Bugsy, the briard.
Here are some pics taken during my works around the area
The first two show my favourite tree in summer and winter
The third is Bugsy taking a breather during a walk
The last three images show the local plantation and also the most surreal street light on the road to nowhere :)
I hope you’ve enjoyed having a little look round my space!
I can sometimes welcome visitors to have a closer look, get in touch if that’s something you’re interested in!
